The Pune Regional Transport Office has announced an online e-auction of 42 seized vehicles, offering citizens an opportunity to bid transparently through a digital platform.

January 16, 2026 | Pune –The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) continued its online e-auction of seized vehicles, offering the public an opportunity to bid on 42 vehicles through a transparent, government-regulated digital platform. The e-auction, which began on January 15, is part of the RTO’s ongoing efforts to dispose of confiscated and unclaimed vehicles efficiently while promoting transparency and accountability.

According to Pune RTO officials, the vehicles included in the auction were seized over a period of time for various violations, such as non-payment of road tax, lack of valid registration documents, prolonged abandonment, or failure to comply with transport regulations. After completing all required legal formalities and waiting periods, these vehicles were declared eligible for disposal through auction.

The online e-auction model allows interested buyers to participate without visiting the RTO premises, making the process more accessible and convenient. Participants are required to register on the official government-approved e-auction portal, submit identity documents, and deposit the prescribed security amount before placing bids. This digital approach ensures wider participation and eliminates the role of intermediaries.

On January 16, 2026, RTO officials confirmed that the auction includes a mix of two-wheelers, cars, and other categories of vehicles. Detailed information such as vehicle type, condition, base price, and auction terms has been made available on the official portal. Prospective bidders have been advised to carefully study these details before placing bids, as all vehicles are being sold on an “as-is, where-is” basis.

Officials emphasized that buyers will be responsible for post-purchase formalities, including re-registration, repairs if required, and compliance with transport rules. While government auctions often attract buyers seeking cost-effective deals, authorities have advised bidders to factor in additional expenses such as registration fees, taxes, and maintenance costs before making a final decision.

The Pune RTO stated that conducting auctions online improves transparency and ensures fair competition among bidders. Previous e-auction initiatives have seen encouraging participation and positive feedback, prompting the department to continue using digital platforms for asset disposal. The approach also helps maximize revenue realization for the government while maintaining procedural integrity.

Citizens have shown steady interest in the ongoing auction, particularly due to the convenience of online bidding. However, the RTO has cautioned participants to rely only on official communication channels and avoid unauthorized agents or websites claiming to offer auction access. All legitimate information and registration links are available only through the designated government portal.

The e-auction process scheduled for January 15 and January 16, 2026, will conclude after the specified bidding window. Successful bidders will be required to complete the payment within the stipulated timeline. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the security deposit, as per auction guidelines.

Officials also noted that regular disposal of seized vehicles helps reduce congestion at RTO yards and improves operational efficiency. Clearing long-pending vehicles frees up valuable space and ensures better management of seized assets, supporting smoother enforcement of transport laws.

As of January 16, 2026, the Pune RTO expressed confidence that the e-auction process would conclude smoothly and transparently. The initiative reflects the state’s broader push toward digital governance and citizen-friendly services. The auction of 42 seized vehicles stands as another step toward efficient administration and transparent public service delivery in Pune.
