Officers from Shivajinagar arrested a 19-year-old fugitive inmate in an attempted murder case at Shivajinagar Railway Quarters. The suspect admitted guilt and has been arrested under the Arms Act.

Pune, 13 November 2025 – A 19-year-old fugitive wanted for attacking a man with a sickle near the Shivajinagar Railway Quarters has been arrested after a swift operation by the local police. The accused, Abhishek Ganesh Doraswami, had been absconding since the night of 11 November, when he allegedly assaulted Ajay Alagude at his residence near the railway quarters. The case had been registered at Khadki Police Station, and officers had been tracking Doraswami’s movements ever since the attack.

Police teams received information that the suspect had quietly returned to his house near the station. Acting on the tip, officers from Shivajinagar Police Station formed a team, monitored the area and moved in before he could escape again. Doraswami was detained and questioned, during which he admitted to his involvement. The weapon used in the assault was seized, and officers have booked him under relevant attempted murder sections along with the Arms Act. The victim is undergoing medical treatment while police collect more evidence and record witness statements.

Residents in and around the railway quarters had been uneasy after the violent incident, and the arrest has offered some reassurance that law-enforcement is keeping closer watch on the area. Police officials said they will continue probing whether the assault involved any additional suspects or if it was connected to previous disputes. Teams are also checking whether Doraswami has a wider criminal history that may link him to other pending cases. Officers emphasised that efforts to trace fugitives hiding in congested neighbourhoods remain a priority, especially when weapons are involved.

The arrest is being viewed as part of a broader push across Pune to respond quickly to violent crimes, prevent repeat incidents and maintain the sense of safety in residential pockets. The case will now move to court as the formal procedures, including remand and documentation, are completed. For local residents, the message is clear: reporting suspicious activity can make a difference, and quick action by patrol teams is helping address concerns about rising weapon-related offences in the city.
