Pune
Fergusson College Road in Pune will face partial closure for nine days as the Pune Book Festival runs from December 13-21. Traffic diversions and alternate routes have been advised.
Pune, December 13, 2025 – Pune commuters are advised to brace for traffic changes as Fergusson College Road, one of the city’s busiest stretches, will remain partially closed for nine days due to the Pune Book Festival. The temporary closure will be in effect from December 13 to December 21, as authorities implement traffic management measures to accommodate large crowds expected at the cultural event.
Traffic movement on FC Road will be restricted for through vehicles during festival hours, with access primarily reserved for event-related movement and pedestrians. The decision has been taken to ensure public safety and prevent congestion in the area, which usually witnesses heavy footfall even on regular days. Officials anticipate a significant rise in visitors, especially during evenings and weekends, prompting the need for controlled vehicular access.
To ease congestion, several traffic diversions have been put in place. Vehicles heading towards Karve Road via Jangli Maharaj Road will be diverted at Bal Gandharva Chowk and routed through Riverside Road and Mahadev Mandir Road. Similarly, commuters travelling from Karve Road towards Shivajinagar are advised to avoid FC Road and instead use alternate routes such as Nal Stop, Law College Road, and Senapati Bapat Road.

Special arrangements have also been made inside the Fergusson College campus to streamline vehicle movement. Entry for two-wheelers, cars, and buses will be allowed through Gate No. 3 near Sant Tukaram Maharaj Paduka Chowk, while Gate No. 4 will be used as the designated exit. Gate No. 2 will remain exclusively open for pedestrians to ensure smooth and safe movement of visitors attending the festival.
Free parking facilities have been arranged at nearby locations, including college premises and municipal parking areas close to the venue. These measures aim to discourage roadside parking and reduce pressure on surrounding roads. Traffic personnel will be deployed at key junctions throughout the festival period to manage flow, guide motorists, and respond quickly to congestion or emergencies.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid FC Road during peak hours wherever possible and to plan their travel in advance. Motorists are also encouraged to use public transport, carpooling options, or alternative routes to minimise delays. Peak congestion is expected between morning and late evening hours when visitor turnout is likely to be highest.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding areas have been informed about the traffic plan in advance, with signage and on-ground coordination to assist commuters. Officials have emphasised that cooperation from the public will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the traffic management plan and maintaining smooth movement across the city during the festival.
