Three Pune youths die in tragic Delhi-Mumbai Expressway crash while returning from Jammu & Kashmir trip. Car fell off flyover in Rajasthan.
Pune | 19March, 2026: A heartbreaking road accident has claimed the lives of three young men from Pune, who were returning home after a trip to Jammu & Kashmir and Leh-Ladakh. The tragic incident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Kota district, turning what was meant to be a memorable journey into a devastating loss for their families.

According to police officials, the accident took place on Wednesday morning near Balapura village under the Kaithun police station limits. The victims, identified as Siddhant (21), Kunal (25), and Mayuresh (23), were part of a group of friends who had embarked on a long road trip to northern India in late February.
Reports indicate that the group was returning to Pune in multiple vehicles when the accident occurred. The car carrying the three victims, reportedly a high-speed SUV, lost control, rammed into a divider, and plunged nearly 30 feet off an elevated stretch of the expressway. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely wrecked, leaving little chance of survival.
Bystanders and local authorities rushed to the spot and attempted rescue operations. The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared all three youths dead on arrival. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem before being handed over to the families.
Trip Turned Tragic
What makes the incident even more tragic is the context of their journey. The group had been travelling across Jammu & Kashmir and Leh-Ladakh since February 26. Their return was reportedly delayed after they got stranded in Kargil for a few days due to heavy snowfall, adding to the exhaustion of the long road trip.
Investigators suspect that fatigue or a momentary lapse in concentration could have contributed to the accident. Some reports also suggest the possibility of the driver dozing off, although the exact cause is still under investigation. Overspeeding and loss of control remain key angles being examined by the police.
Rising Concerns Over Highway Safety
This incident once again highlights the dangers associated with high-speed expressways. While roads like the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway are designed for faster travel, experts warn that driver fatigue, long-distance travel, and overspeeding significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents.
In recent years, several accidents on major highways across India have been linked to similar factors. The combination of long driving hours, changing terrains, and lack of adequate rest breaks often leads to reduced alertness among drivers, especially during return journeys after extended trips.
Families in Shock, Community Mourns
Back in Pune, the news has left families and local communities devastated. The victims, all in their early twenties, had their entire lives ahead of them. Friends and acquaintances have expressed grief on social media, remembering them as energetic and ambitious young individuals.
Local leaders and authorities have also extended condolences, while ensuring that necessary support is provided to the bereaved families. The incident has once again sparked conversations around road safety awareness, particularly among young travellers who frequently undertake long road trips.
