Pune| December 15, 2025: A tragic road accident on Pune’s heavily congested Katraj–Kondhwa Road claimed the life of a woman, once again highlighting serious safety concerns on one of the city’s busiest corridors. The incident occurred during peak hours when traffic diversions were in place due to ongoing road-related work, leading to slow-moving vehicles and confusion among commuters.

According to information available so far, the woman was travelling on a two-wheeler when she met with the accident on the Katraj–Kondhwa stretch. The area was witnessing heavy traffic at the time, with multiple diversions causing bottlenecks and sudden lane shifts. In the chaos, the woman suffered critical injuries after being hit by a heavy vehicle. Despite efforts by passersby to help and rush her to a nearby hospital, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Eyewitnesses reported that traffic congestion significantly delayed emergency response. Long queues of vehicles and limited space on the road reportedly made it difficult for ambulances and police vehicles to reach the spot quickly. Several commuters also pointed out that unclear diversion markings and inadequate signage added to the confusion, increasing the risk for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.

The Katraj–Kondhwa Road has long been flagged as an accident-prone stretch, especially during morning and evening peak hours. The mix of heavy vehicles, private cars, two-wheelers, and public transport, combined with ongoing infrastructure work, often creates dangerous driving conditions. Residents and daily commuters have repeatedly raised concerns about sudden diversions, poor road surfaces, and lack of proper traffic management.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Traffic camera footage from the area is being reviewed, and statements from witnesses are being recorded.
