Pune Youth Seriously Injured After Gang Attacks Him Behind Kothrud Bus Stand

A 23-year-old man was attacked with a bottle and a sharp weapon by six individuals behind Kothrud bus stand over past enmity. Police are reviewing CCTV and searching for the accused.

A 23-year-old man was seriously injured after he was attacked by a group of six individuals behind the Kothrud bus stand on Sunday evening. The assault was reportedly driven by an old dispute between the victim, Swaroop Awate from Uttamnagar, and the accused.

According to the police, Awate was passing through the lane behind the bus stand near the Bank of Baroda when the group stopped him around 7:45 pm. They allegedly abused him, surrounded him, and suddenly launched a violent attack. One member of the group struck a glass bottle on his head, while others stabbed him with a sharp weapon. The force of the attack left Awate bleeding heavily, and he collapsed at the spot before bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital. Doctors have stated that the injuries are serious but he is now stable.

Investigators from Kothrud Police Station said that the enmity between Awate and the attackers stemmed from a confrontation that took place a few days earlier. The accused had apparently warned him of consequences, and the latest attack appears to be a continuation of that dispute.

Police teams have begun identifying the suspects using CCTV footage from the lane, nearby shops and public areas. Officers are also recording statements from witnesses who were present at the time. The search for the attackers is underway, and officials say arrests are expected soon.

Local residents expressed concern over rising incidents of violence in the area, especially near public transport hubs. They have urged the police to increase patrolling near the Kothrud bus stand during evening hours to prevent similar incidents.

Police officials said strict action will be taken once the accused are apprehended. They added that such retaliatory violence stemming from personal disputes endangers not only those involved but also the general public.
