Chandigarh | October 17, 2025: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar for allegedly accepting a ₹5 lakh bribe. The CBI team caught him red-handed during a planned trap operation, following a complaint that accused him of demanding illegal gratification for an official favor.
Following the arrest, CBI officials conducted a detailed search of Bhullar’s residence and properties, where they discovered ₹5 crore in cash, gold jewellery, luxury watches, and several high-end cars. The massive seizure has sparked outrage and shock within the Punjab Police department.

According to CBI sources, Bhullar was under surveillance for several weeks after multiple complaints were received about his alleged involvement in corruption-related activities. The agency’s anti-corruption branch is now examining the source of the recovered assets and whether others were involved in the bribery network.
Officials have also hinted that more arrests could follow as part of the expanding investigation. The CBI has sealed certain documents and electronic devices from Bhullar’s residence to trace potential money trails and links to other officers or middlemen.
This arrest marks one of the biggest anti-corruption operations in Punjab’s recent history, highlighting the CBI’s intensified focus on weeding out graft within the police and administrative ranks.
