March 19 | New Delhi: In a significant political and administrative development, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi along with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in the national capital. The meeting was prompted by concerns raised by a delegation of bus and truck body manufacturers from Rajasthan, who highlighted challenges arising from evolving regulations and rising operational costs.

The delegation expressed apprehensions regarding new safety standards, increased licensing fees, and complex compliance procedures, which they claimed were adversely affecting their businesses. Taking note of these issues, Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi accompanied the representatives to Gadkari’s office, where detailed discussions were held to address the grievances and explore possible solutions. Meanwhile, a tragic incident unfolded in southwest Delhi’s Palam इलाके, where a massive fire broke out in a four-storey residential building on Wednesday morning. Preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit in a ground-floor cosmetics shop triggered the blaze, which rapidly engulfed the structure due to highly inflammable materials.

Thick smoke quickly spread to the upper floors, trapping residents inside. Rescue operations were hampered by narrow lanes and congestion, delaying access for fire tenders and ambulances. Nine people, including members of a single family and three children, lost their lives, while three others were rescued and admitted to a nearby hospital. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, focusing on fire safety compliance and electrical faults, as concerns grow over urban fire preparedness.
