Nashik, Maharashtra : March 20, 2026: The arrest of self-proclaimed numerologist and tantrik Ashok Kharat, alias Bhondubaba or Captain Kharat, has triggered statewide outrage over allegations of sexually and mentally exploiting women by preying on their faith.
Nashik Crime Branch teams struck late Thursday at his sprawling Mirgav farmhouse near Sinnar, confiscating a pistol, live cartridges, and critical documents linked to assets estimated at over ₹200 crore amassed benami over 15 years. In response, the Maharashtra government swiftly constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IPS officer Tejaswini Satpute to probe multiple FIRs cohesively, including rape and hypnosis-aided assaults on victims lured with promises of spiritual aid.

Investigations reveal Kharat’s vast empire: a ₹50 crore plot in Shirdi, lavish Nashik bungalow and office, 30 acres near Pathardi, plus holdings near Sinnar, Ozar airport, and Shirdi—allegedly funded by duping devotees. Suspicious hasty wheat harvest on Shirdi land post-arrest hints at evidence tampering attempts, police suspect.
