Hyderabad, October 20, 2025 – Ranganath, born Tirumala Sundara Sri Ranganath on July 17, 1946, in Madras (now Chennai), was a prominent figure in Telugu cinema. With a career spanning over four decades, he appeared in more than 300 films, earning accolades and the admiration of audiences across South India.

His journey into acting was unconventional. Before entering the film industry, Ranganath worked as a ticket collector for the Indian Railways. His acting debut came in 1969 with the Telugu film Buddhimantudu. Over the years, he became known for his versatile roles in films like Chandana, Zamindarugari Ammayi, Devathalara Deevinchandi, Panthulamma, and Intinti Ramayanam. His performances earned him several Nandi Awards, solidifying his status as a respected actor in the industry.

Despite his professional success, Ranganath’s personal life was marked by tragedy. In 2009, his wife, Tirumala Chaithanya, passed away after a prolonged illness. Her death had a profound impact on him, leading to a period of depression. In December 2015, Ranganath was found dead at his residence in Hyderabad. Initial reports suggested a prolonged illness, but police investigations indicated that he had died by suicide. A suicide note was recovered, shedding light on his emotional turmoil during his final days.

In a surprising turn, Ranganath left all his wealth to his loyal housemaid, despite having children. This gesture highlighted his deep appreciation for the care and companionship she provided during his later years. His decision sparked discussions about the often-overlooked relationships that shape our lives.

Ranganath’s death sent shockwaves through the Telugu film industry, leaving fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a talented actor and a kind-hearted individual. His story serves as a reminder of the pressures faced by public figures and the importance of mental health awareness.
