Former MLA Ravindra Dhangekar has demanded the removal of all trustees of Pune’s Jain Boarding Hostel and called for ₹230 crore linked to a land deal to be frozen amid allegations of irregularities.
Pune, October 28, 2025 – Former MLA Ravindra Dhangekar has intensified the ongoing controversy over the land deal of the Jain Boarding Hostel Trust in Pune. He has demanded that all trustees of the trust be dismissed immediately and that ₹230 crore related to the land transaction be frozen until a proper investigation is completed.
According to Dhangekar, serious irregularities have taken place in the sale and purchase process of the trust’s land. He alleged that the trustees failed to verify the ownership documents properly before finalizing the deal, raising doubts about the legitimacy of the transaction. Dhangekar further claimed that the deal appeared to be influenced by what he described as a “land theft gang” operating in the city.
The controversy escalated after Gokhale Builders, the firm involved in purchasing the property, reportedly backed out of the agreement. The builder communicated through email that the deal had been cancelled and sought a refund of ₹230 crore paid to the trust. Following this development, Dhangekar urged authorities to freeze the funds immediately, suggesting that the money should instead be redirected for the hostel’s educational and welfare activities.
He also appealed to the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner to investigate the trustees’ actions and take firm measures to prevent any misuse of the trust’s property or funds. Dhangekar said the entire issue should be probed transparently, as the hostel is a charitable institution meant for student welfare and not for private profit.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Charity Commissioner’s office or the state government regarding Dhangekar’s demand. The matter has drawn attention in political and social circles, especially given the size of the funds involved and the hostel’s long-standing reputation as an educational institution.
Many community members and local leaders have expressed concern over the management of the trust’s assets, urging authorities to take swift action to protect its legacy. Dhangekar maintained that the trustees should be held accountable for their decisions and removed if they are found responsible for any wrongdoing.
The issue is expected to gain further traction as investigations proceed and more details about the land deal emerge.
