Robbery Accused Held 15 Months After Sword Attack at Chinese Hotel in Yerawada

A 42-year-old man accused of attacking a hotel staffer with a sword and fleeing with cash 15 months ago has been arrested by Pune Crime Branch during a targeted patrol operation
Pune | 27 February, 2026: The Crime Branch Unit-4 of Pune City Police has arrested a man accused of carrying out a violent robbery at a Chinese restaurant in Yerawada nearly 15 months ago. The accused, identified as Faisal alias Batav Usman Khan, 42, a resident of Bhavani Peth, was detained following a specific tip-off received during routine surveillance of history-sheeters and absconders.
Police constables Nagesh Kunwar and Vishal Ithape received credible information that one of the suspects involved in the attack at Pakko Chinese Hotel, located near Bank of Maharashtra, Umar Complex, Irani Market, Yerawada, was present near Bhagwa Chowk in Kashewadi, Bhavani Peth. Acting on instructions from senior officials, the team apprehended a man matching the description.

During questioning at the Unit-4 office, Khan initially gave evasive replies. However, sustained interrogation led to his confession that he and an associate had assaulted a man at the hotel counter with a sword and forcibly taken cash from the drawer before fleeing.
Police confirmed that a case had been registered at Yerawada Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act and the Criminal Law Amendment Act in 2024. The accused has been handed over to Yerawada Police Station for further legal action.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officers of the Pune City Crime Branch.
