Sydney, October 26, 2025 – In a remarkable display of batting prowess, India secured a resounding 9-wicket victory over Australia in the third and final One Day International at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25, 2025. Chasing a target of 237 runs, India achieved the goal in 38.3 overs, with Rohit Sharma remaining unbeaten on 121 runs off 125 balls and Virat Kohli contributing 74 not out from 81 balls. Their unbroken 168-run partnership for the second wicket not only sealed the match but also prevented a series whitewash, with India finishing at 237/1.
Earlier, Australia opted to bat first but was restricted to 236 all out in 46.4 overs. Matt Renshaw top-scored for the hosts with 56 runs, while India’s bowlers, particularly Harshit Rana, who claimed 4 wickets for 39 runs, and spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, effectively stifled Australia’s middle-order, preventing any significant partnerships.
This victory marked a significant achievement for Rohit Sharma, who registered his 33rd ODI century, equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in One Day Internationals. Virat Kohli’s innings was equally commendable, as he celebrated his first run with a fist pump and grin, bringing cheers from the pro-India crowd. This match may mark his final ODI appearance in Australia, adding emotional weight to his performance.
Reflecting on the win, Shubman Gill hailed the performance as a “near-perfect” victory, emphasizing the team’s resilience and determination. Despite losing the series 1-2, India’s dominant performance in the final match showcased their potential and set a positive tone for future engagements.
