Mumbai | 2 March, 2026: Host India stormed into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup with a commanding five-wicket victory over West Indies on Sunday, riding on a breathtaking knock from Sanju Samson.

Chasing 196 after West Indies posted 195 for 4, India reached 199 for 5 in 19.2 overs. Samson remained unbeaten on 97 off just 50 balls, smashing 12 fours and four sixes in what is now India’s highest individual score in T20 World Cup history, surpassing Virat Kohli’s previous best of 82 not out. He stitched a vital 58-run partnership with skipper Suryakumar Yadav to steady the chase after early setbacks.

Earlier, West Indies were powered by an unbroken 76-run stand between Jason Holder and Rovman Powell. Holder struck 37 not out off 22 balls, while Powell added an unbeaten 34. Contributions from Shai Hope (32) and Roston Chase (40) had earlier laid a solid foundation. India’s fielding, however, raised concerns as they dropped multiple catches, taking their tournament tally to 13 missed opportunities.

With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah claimed two wickets, while Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakravarthy chipped in with one each.

Pandya also achieved a rare milestone, becoming only the third cricketer after Shakib Al Hasan and Shahid Afridi to score over 400 runs and take more than 30 wickets in T20 World Cup history.India will now face England in the semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, aiming to continue their unbeaten run in front of a home crowd.
