Outrage in Satara after a woman doctor’s suicide in Phaltan. Sushma Andhare leads protest demanding justice as police assure fast-track trial and thorough investigation.
Satara, November 3, 2025 – Tension gripped the Phaltan area of Satara district after the suicide of a young woman doctor sparked massive outrage and protests outside the Phaltan Police Station. Following the demonstration led by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare, the police assured that the investigation will be expedited and a fast-track trial will be initiated to ensure justice.
The doctor, aged around 28, was employed at the Phaltan Sub-District Hospital. She was found dead in a hotel room, and preliminary reports indicate that she had named a police sub-inspector and a few others in her complaint, alleging continuous harassment. Her death has raised serious questions about police conduct and the safety of women professionals working in public health services.
Sushma Andhare, who reached Phaltan to meet the victim’s family, demanded immediate suspension of the accused officers and an independent inquiry. She also questioned inconsistencies in the official version of events, highlighting issues such as mismatched handwriting in the alleged suicide note and gaps in CCTV footage.
Doctors’ associations and medical unions have strongly condemned the incident, stating that the system failed to protect one of its own. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has demanded that the case be handed over to the CID and heard in a fast-track court. They also announced that if strict action isn’t taken, they will intensify protests across the state.
The police have assured a fair investigation and said that all digital and forensic evidence, including the victim’s phone data, will be analyzed. Senior officers have confirmed that the accused are being questioned and that no leniency will be shown if found guilty.
This tragic case has once again brought attention to workplace harassment faced by medical professionals and the urgent need for systemic reforms. The victim’s family, supported by activists and the medical fraternity, continues to demand that justice be swift and transparent.
