Sharad Pawar criticizes the Election Commission and government during an opposition protest in Mumbai, alleging manipulation of voter lists and misuse of power ahead of elections.
Mumbai, November 1, 2025 – Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission of India and the government during an opposition protest march held in Mumbai. The demonstration was organized by opposition parties demanding transparency and fairness in the electoral process ahead of the upcoming elections.
Addressing the crowd, Pawar accused the Election Commission of failing to ensure clean and accurate voter lists. He claimed that several fake names and fraudulent Aadhaar entries have been included, raising serious doubts about the integrity of the electoral rolls. Pawar said that the right to vote is a fundamental pillar of democracy, and any attempt to manipulate or misuse it must be strongly opposed.
He further alleged that instead of acting on citizens’ complaints about irregularities, authorities are filing cases against those who expose corruption. “When falsehood gets exposed and a case is filed against the exposer itself, it means the system is shielding wrongdoing,” Pawar said, criticizing the government’s handling of such issues.
The veteran leader compared the current political atmosphere to the movements of the late 1970s, emphasizing that the struggle today is about protecting democratic rights granted by the Constitution. He urged all opposition parties to unite beyond ideological differences and fight collectively for the protection of democracy.
Pawar also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and question any irregularities in the voting process. He said that if democracy weakens, it will affect every citizen, not just political opponents.
The protest marked the beginning of a joint campaign by opposition groups to demand accountability and reform in election management. With key state and national elections approaching, Pawar’s remarks have intensified the political debate over transparency, fairness, and the independence of electoral institutions in India.
