Pune|December 29,2025: Pune city police released its 2025 crime report today, highlighting a steady decline in several serious crime categories over the last five years. The data indicates the impact of sustained enforcement measures and focused policing under Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.
In a session with Pune journalists, CP Amitesh Kumar and top officials of Pune City Police detailed the department’s actions to control crime and shared insights into various ongoing initiatives. The briefing underscored the department’s structured approach, combining proactive patrolling, special task forces, technological integration, and time-bound investigations to curb offences.

Comparative figures for 2023, 2024, and 2025 show consistent reductions in violent crimes. Murder cases fell from 101 in 2023 to 79 in 2025, a drop of about 22%. Attempt-to-murder cases registered an even sharper decline, falling from 244 to 153 in the same period – nearly a 40% reduction.
Vehicle theft, a high-frequency urban crime, also saw a notable fall, with cases dropping from 1,962 in 2023 to 1,572 in 2025. Police officials attribute this to intensified patrolling, targeted operations against habitual offenders, and improved surveillance in theft-prone areas.
While offences like robbery, rape, and molestation showed minor year-on-year variations, officials highlighted that better reporting mechanisms, faster response systems, and victim-friendly initiatives have led to more accurate crime statistics and encouraged complaint registration, especially in crimes against women.
According to the police, the decline in serious offences is the outcome of a structured policing approach that includes regular crime reviews, deployment of special teams in sensitive zones, and tighter monitoring of repeat offenders. CP Amitesh Kumar has emphasized visible policing, night patrolling, and inter-station coordination to strengthen both deterrence and investigation efficiency.
The city police also shared details of community engagement programs, awareness campaigns, and technology-driven monitoring systems introduced over the last year, aimed at further improving crime prevention and citizen safety.
While the latest crime report reflects measurable improvements, officials caution that crime control remains an ongoing effort in a rapidly expanding city like Pune. Focus will continue on reducing violent crimes, improving detection and conviction rates, and sustaining community-oriented policing measures.
The 2025 report, shared in the media briefing, illustrates the results of consistent oversight and strategic policing under CP Amitesh Kumar and his team, with positive trends now evident across multiple crime categories in Pune city.
