Residents of Undri and Mahadevwadi in Pune are facing a severe water shortage, prompting Shiv Sena leaders to warn the Pune Municipal Corporation of a “Handa Morcha” protest if the crisis is not resolved.
Pune, March 9, 2026: A serious water shortage in the Undri-Mahadev wadi area of south Pune has triggered strong reactions from residents and political leaders, with the Shiv Sena warning the civic administration of a protest march if immediate action is not taken. The party has threatened to organize a “Handa Morcha” to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) office on March 11 if the water supply problems continue.

The issue has been raised by Pramod (Nana) Bhangire, Shiv Sena’s Pune city chief and former corporator, who has written to the municipal administration highlighting the worsening water crisis in Ward No. 41, which includes Mahadevwadi and parts of Undri. According to the complaint, residents in several housing societies have been struggling with irregular and insufficient water supply for the past few months, and the situation is expected to worsen as summer approaches.
In the letter addressed to the civic commissioner, Bhangire pointed out that earlier representations had already been made to the water supply department requesting urgent intervention. Officials had reportedly assured residents that a technical inspection would be carried out and that regular supply would resume within about two weeks. However, residents claim that despite these assurances, there has been little visible improvement on the ground.

One of the key demands raised by local representatives is the activation of water tanks located near Dorabjee Mall in Survey No. 25 in Undri. These tanks were constructed to improve the distribution system and reduce dependence on private water tankers in the rapidly growing locality. However, according to residents and Shiv Sena leaders, the tanks have not yet been fully integrated into the municipal water distribution network, leaving many households dependent on costly tanker water.

Bhangire has also urged the civic body to increase the number of water tankers temporarily to manage the growing demand until the permanent infrastructure becomes operational. In addition, he has called for the immediate completion of pending pipeline work and booster system installations in areas such as Heaven Park and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar to ensure stable water supply.
Another concern raised by residents involves the quality of drinking water in certain parts of Mahadevwadi, where reports of larvae being found in water have raised health concerns. Local residents fear that contaminated water supply could pose serious risks, particularly to children and elderly citizens.
The Shiv Sena leader has given the municipal authorities a deadline of March 10 to restore regular water supply and resolve the major issues affecting residents. If the situation remains unresolved, the party has warned that it will organize a “Handa Morcha” – a symbolic protest where participants carry empty water pots – to highlight the severity of the crisis and demand accountability from the civic administration.
Residents of the area say they hope the civic authorities will take swift action before the situation worsens further with rising temperatures and increasing water demand in the coming weeks.
