A fully equipped mobile forensic van has been handed to the Shrirampur police subdivision by the state government, enabling on-the-spot collection and preliminary analysis of evidence expected to accelerate crime investigations.

Shrirampur / Ahilyanagar|December 5, 2025: In a move aimed at strengthening scientific crime investigation, the state government has provided a state-of-the-art mobile forensic van to the police subdivision based in Shrirampur. The van  deployed under the Directorate of Forensic Science’s special initiative  is designed to collect and process evidence directly at crime scenes.

The vehicle is outfitted with modern forensic tools, enabling police to conduct key tasks such as DNA-sample collection, fingerprint analysis, digital evidence examination, and even preliminary blood-sample processing on-site. Officials say this will help make investigations more accurate, transparent, and swift.

Prior to this, collection and processing of forensic evidence often required transporting samples to distant labs, resulting in delays. With this mobile facility, critical evidence can be preserved and analysed immediately, which can help reduce evidence tampering and improve conviction rates. Police officers believe that the availability of real-time forensic support at the scene will significantly cut down investigation times for serious crimes.

Local authorities have welcomed the development, calling the van a major upgrade for crime-scene investigation capabilities in the Shrirampur subdivision. Forensics personnel attached to the van will be able to reach any crime site promptly, gather essential scientific evidence, and ensure that the preliminary analysis is secured before transporting materials if needed.

This initiative is part of wider efforts by the government to modernize policing and incorporate scientific methods into criminal investigations across the state. If successful, the model may be extended to other subdivisions, potentially boosting the overall speed and reliability of investigations in Maharashtra.
