Six Cases Filed Against Self-Styled Godman Ashok Kharat; SIT Expands Probe in Nashik

Police have registered six criminal cases against self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, with a Special Investigation Team intensifying the probe and seeking public assistance as more complaints emerge.

March 24 | Nashik A major investigation is underway in Nashik against self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, with police confirming that at least six criminal cases, including allegations of atrocities against women, have been registered against him so far. The probe has been handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is now expanding its scope as more complaints continue to surface from different locations. Authorities said the case has revealed several disturbing details, prompting police to appeal to citizens to come forward with any relevant information. Officials have assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential to encourage more victims and witnesses to assist in the investigation.

As part of the ongoing probe, police teams conducted searches and inquiries across multiple locations in Nashik, including Mirgaon, Karmayogi Nagar, the Canada Corner office and the Ishanya Eshwar temple premises. Several individuals linked to Kharat, including temple staff and close associates, have been questioned in connection with the case. Investigators are also examining potential links between Kharat and various political figures. Sources indicated that elected representatives, including corporators and relatives of local politicians, may be questioned for their alleged association with the accused. It is believed that some individuals had approached Kharat for religious rituals, particularly during the run-up to municipal elections.

The SIT team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar Suryawanshi, along with Police Inspector Trishau Sonawane and Inspector Rahul More, is overseeing the investigation. Officials have urged anyone who has experienced harassment, fraud or any form of misconduct linked to the accused to contact the designated helpline numbers. With the investigation gaining momentum, authorities expect more revelations in the coming days as they work to uncover the full extent of the alleged offences.
