The Solapur Municipal Corporation is gearing up to appoint nine “approved” office bearers from among 567 aspirants, with formal announcements expected at its first general meeting scheduled for February 20
Solapur|February 12, 2026: Following the recent municipal election in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a commanding victory, winning most council seats, attention has now shifted to the selection of “approved” office bearers in the Solapur Municipal Corporation. A total of 567 candidates have submitted applications for the nine available positions, according to local political sources.
The nomination process has drawn significant interest from political workers and party members, with many seeking to be chosen as approved office bearers a status that often enhances political visibility and influence within the civic body. Names such as city president Rohini Tadvalkar and former deputy mayor Padmakar Kale are widely talked about as likely frontrunners for selection. The remaining seven slots are expected to be allocated by considering new faces and representatives from various social groups to ensure broad political and community representation.

The Solapur Municipal Corporation’s first general meeting for the newly elected council is set to take place on February 20, where the official decisions on all office bearers, including the nine approved members, will be finalised. This event marks a key early administrative step following the January civic polls and will determine the leadership framework that will guide the corporation’s governance in the coming years.
Internal BJP strategists are reportedly considering these appointments with the upcoming 2029 assembly elections in mind, aiming to strengthen the party’s organisational structure at the grassroots level. Aspiring candidates have also secured recommendations from local legislators, adding to the political interest around who will ultimately be selected.
All eyes will be on the February 20 meeting as the civic body’s leadership lineup takes shape, potentially shaping political dynamics in Solapur ahead of future state elections.
