Solapur to Get Maharashtra’s Second-Largest IT Park, Promising 45,000+ Jobs
Maharashtra to build a 50-acre IT park in Solapur’s Hotgi area, creating over 45,000 jobs and decongesting Pune’s Hinjawadi hub.
Pune | November 22, 2025: Solapur is set for a major economic upgrade as the state government clears plans for a large-scale IT park that is expected to generate more than 45,000 jobs. The project will become Maharashtra’s second-largest IT hub after Pune’s Hinjawadi, marking a significant move toward decentralizing the state’s technology-driven growth. According to officials, the IT park will be developed on 50 acres of land in the Hotgi area, previously held by the water resources department, and has now been transferred to the industrial development authorities for immediate planning and execution.
The government has allocated ₹50 crore for essential infrastructure, including internal roads, water supply, electricity, and workspace-support facilities needed to attract tech companies. District administration has also confirmed that preliminary development work will begin soon to ensure the land is ready for large-scale construction. In addition to the 50-acre core zone, expansion plans are under consideration, with discussions around developing nearly 1,500 acres for a future technology and industrial hub connected to the city’s Kumbhari belt.
The announcement comes at a time when Pune’s Hinjawadi IT Park is nearing saturation, leading companies to search for expansion opportunities outside the city. The new Solapur project aims to balance this pressure by offering IT firms a modern, well-equipped alternative. For thousands of skilled youth in Solapur and surrounding districts, the project represents a long-awaited opportunity to find high-quality employment without migrating to major metro cities.
Government officials highlight that the IT park will play a crucial role in transforming Solapur into a competitive technology destination. By creating a dedicated ecosystem for IT and ITeS companies, the project is expected not only to generate direct jobs but also to create indirect employment through supporting services such as transport, food, housing, and logistics. Long-term benefits include reduced migration to Pune, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, and a more balanced distribution of industrial development across Maharashtra.
Local businesses and civic bodies have welcomed the initiative, noting that large-scale IT investments can accelerate urban development, raise living standards, and encourage new educational and training institutions tailored to the industry’s needs. The biggest challenge now lies in timely execution—building world-class infrastructure, ensuring reliable utilities, and creating an environment that attracts both Indian and global tech companies.
If completed as planned, Solapur’s IT park could redefine the city’s economic identity. It has the potential to bring thousands of jobs closer to home for young professionals and position Solapur as an emerging tech hub in Maharashtra. The project may also help reduce pressure on Pune’s IT corridor while strengthening the state’s broader digital growth strategy.
