The temporary removal of Tipu Sultan’s portrait from Malegaon Deputy Mayor’s office will end after renovations, but the decision has sparked potential political controversy in the city.

Malegaon | 17 February 2026:Deputy Mayor Shaan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed announced on Monday that the portrait of Tipu Sultan, temporarily removed during office renovations, will be reinstated once the refurbishment is complete. He emphasized that there is no political motive behind the decision.

However, the move has faced sharp criticism from BJP and Shiv Sena leaders, raising concerns about possible protests or public demonstrations in the city. Responding to opposition criticism, the Deputy Mayor stated that Tipu Sultan was a freedom fighter and honoring his contribution by displaying the portrait is historically and ideologically justified.
