Three Cargo Ships Attacked in Strait of Hormuz; Thailand-Flagged Vessel Bound for Gujarat Catches Fire
A series of attacks on cargo vessels in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz has heightened concerns amid rising tensions in the Middle East, after three commercial ships reportedly came under assault within hours on Wednesday.

12 March London |According to maritime security sources, a Thailand-flagged cargo ship, identified as Mayuree Naree, was struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing toward India’s western coast. The vessel, which was heading for Gujarat, caught fire following the impact. Out of the 23 crew members on board, 20 were successfully evacuated while three reportedly remained on the vessel as emergency response operations continued. The incident occurred roughly 11 nautical miles off the northern coast of Oman, close to the crucial shipping route linking global oil and trade corridors. Maritime authorities said the projectile hit the ship while it was transiting through the narrow waterway near Iran’s territorial region.

The attack was later confirmed by both the Royal Thai Navy and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, which monitors maritime security incidents across the Gulf. Officials said the vessel’s identity was verified using its International Maritime Organization number and structural characteristics.Later the same evening, another cargo ship transiting through the Strait of Hormuz reportedly came under a similar attack and was severely damaged. Crew members on board that vessel were evacuated safely. In a third incident reported late at night, a ship located around 50 nautical miles from Dubai was also targeted, though details regarding the vessel and possible casualties were not immediately available.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, handling a significant share of global oil shipments. The latest incidents have raised fresh concerns over shipping safety and the potential impact of escalating geopolitical tensions in the region.
