Three Youths Killed After Being Hit by Pune–Daund DEMU in Hadapsar – Detailed Probe Underway

A tragic incident in Hadapsar near Pune–Daund rail track resulted in the deaths of three young men after being struck by a DEMU train. Hadapsar police have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances.

PUNE, | Nov 17, 2025: A tragic incident on the Pune–Daund railway route has claimed the lives of three young men, triggering grief across local communities and prompting a detailed police investigation. The accident happened late Sunday near the Gopalpatti area of Hadapsar when a DEMU train traveling toward Daund struck a group of youths who were reportedly walking along the track.

The deceased have been identified as Prathamesh Nitin Tinde, age 18, a resident of Kalepadal, Tanmay Mahendra Tupe, also 18, from Vishal Colony, and 19-year-old Tushar Shinde from Gopalpatti. According to police reports, the group had entered the rail track area around 8.30 pm. The incoming train was moving at regular speed, and the three were hit with such impact that they died on the spot.

Hadapsar Police and personnel from Lohmarg Police Station reached the location within minutes after being informed. Officers conducted a spot inspection and recorded statements from the train crew and nearby witnesses. The bodies were later sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case of accidental death has been registered while further evidence is being collected to determine what led the youths to the track zone at that hour.

Two other individuals who were reportedly with the group fled the scene immediately after the impact. Investigators are now trying to identify and locate them to understand the sequence of events. Police are also checking whether the young men were aware of the incoming train, distracted, or attempting to cross without proper caution. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being scanned for clues.

Residents of Gopalpatti and surrounding areas have raised concerns about the lack of fencing, signage, and lighting on this stretch of the railway line. People frequently use the tracks as a shortcut, especially at night, despite repeated warnings from authorities. After this incident, local activists and families have demanded better safety infrastructure and awareness campaigns to prevent similar tragedies.

Officials from the railway department are assisting Hadapsar Police in the probe. They have stated that the train driver sounded the horn on time but the victims failed to move away. The investigation will also look into whether any negligence on the part of railway staff or infrastructure issues contributed to the incident.

The families of the three youths are in deep shock. Local leaders and authorities have offered support and counseling to help them cope with the loss. Community members gathered near the accident spot on Monday morning, placing flowers and expressing anger over repeated accidents near the same stretch.

This incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with walking along or crossing active railway tracks. Even with frequent warnings, track trespassing remains common in several suburban pockets of Pune. Police have said that they will consider legal action if evidence shows reckless behavior, and they are also urging parents to educate teenagers about railway safety.

As the inquiry continues, authorities are expected to submit a detailed report along with possible recommendations. While the facts are still being pieced together, one thing is clear: three promising young lives were lost in a moment, and the impact has spread far beyond the railway line where it happened. The tragedy has become another reminder that railway safety cannot be ignored, especially in fast-growing urban areas like Pune where people live and travel close to active tracks.
