Pune | 17 February, 2026- Traffic authorities in Pimpri‑Chinchwad have announced significant traffic diversions and road closures in Hinjewadi ahead of the Shiv Jayanti procession scheduled for Thursday, February 19, 2026. The event, which draws large crowds, is being organized with special attention to public safety and smooth traffic management. A comprehensive traffic plan will be enforced from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm to ensure both pedestrian safety and minimal disruption to commuters.

The procession will commence from the Vitthal Rukmini Temple in Hinjewadi Gaothan and conclude at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk. To accommodate participants and ensure orderly movement, authorities have announced the closure of the stretch between Kasturi Chowk and Chhatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj Chowk for regular vehicles during event hours. Alternate routes have been outlined for commuters to minimize inconvenience. Vehicles approaching from Marunji Y Junction will be redirected via Kasturi Chowk, Vinode Vasti, and Indian Oil Chowk. Traffic coming from Mezza Nine Chowk toward Hinjewadi Gaothan will be rerouted through Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Indian Oil Chowk, Kasturi Chowk, and Vinode Vasti. Motorists taking a U-turn at Shivaji Chowk toward Jambhulkar Gym Chowk will follow a route via Jambhulkar Gym Chowk, Indian Oil Chowk, Kasturi Chowk, and Vinode Vasti Chowk. Additionally, one of the two lanes from Mezza Nine Chowk toward Shivaji Maharaj Chowk will be closed, with traffic directed into the right lane during the event hours.

Police officials have urged commuters to follow the revised traffic routes and cooperate with personnel deployed along the procession route. Residents and office-goers are advised to plan travel ahead of time, avoid the closed stretches during peak hours, and adhere to traffic instructions to minimize delays. These measures aim to balance the festival’s cultural significance with smooth traffic flow, especially in an area that sees consistent vehicle movement due to nearby IT parks.

Shiv Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is celebrated widely across Maharashtra. The festival typically includes processions, cultural events, and gatherings that attract large crowds. In previous years, similar events in Pune and surrounding areas have required extensive traffic advisories and alternate routes to accommodate public participation.

Urban mobility experts note that advance planning and clear communication of diversion routes are essential during large-scale public events. “Processions like Shiv Jayanti involve concentrated footfall, which can overwhelm local road networks if not managed proactively,” says an urban transport specialist. Authorities emphasize that the traffic diversions are temporary and precautionary, designed to ensure both public safety and commuter convenience during the celebrations.

As the procession day approaches, commuters in and around Hinjewadi are advised to monitor updates, plan their travel accordingly, and cooperate with traffic personnel. With careful planning and public cooperation, the Shiv Jayanti procession is expected to proceed smoothly, allowing residents to celebrate the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj while maintaining organized traffic flow.
