Pimpri-Chinchwad police announce major traffic diversions around vote counting centres on December 21. Commuters advised to use alternative routes and plan journeys ahead.
Pune, December 20 2025: Commuters in Pimpri-Chinchwad are advised to plan their travel carefully on Sunday, December 21, as police have announced extensive traffic diversions and restrictions around key vote counting centres to ensure smooth and secure counting operations. The arrangements have been put in place in anticipation of heavy movement of officials, political workers, and support staff throughout the day, particularly in Talegaon Dabhade, Chakan, and Alandi.
Authorities have clarified that traffic restrictions will remain in force from early morning until the completion of vote counting or up to late evening, depending on ground conditions. During this period, only emergency and essential service vehicles such as ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles, election duty vehicles, and supply vehicles carrying milk and vegetables will be allowed in restricted zones. All other motorists will be required to follow designated diversion routes.

Vote counting is scheduled at three major locations — the new municipal council building in Talegaon Dabhade, Meera Mangal Karyalaya near Chakan Market Yard, and the Municipal Council office in Alandi. Roads surrounding these centres are expected to witness congestion, prompting traffic police to implement temporary closures and redirections to maintain law and order and prevent bottlenecks.
In Talegaon Dabhade, the road stretch between Jijamata Chowk and Talegaon Station Chowk will be closed for general traffic. Vehicles approaching the area will be diverted through alternate internal roads, including routes via Khandge Petrol Pump and Beti Bachao Circle. Additional restrictions will apply to connecting roads leading directly to the counting centre to prevent unauthorised access.

Similarly, in Chakan, traffic movement towards the Market Yard area will be restricted from multiple directions, including vehicles entering from Chakan Gaothan, Mahatma Phule Chowk, and the Khed side. Motorists travelling towards Pune or Alandi through Chakan are advised to use alternate corridors to avoid delays. Clear signage and on-ground personnel will guide drivers along diversion routes.
In Alandi, roads surrounding the municipal council office will be regulated, with diversions planned to keep the immediate vicinity free of congestion. Traffic police teams will be stationed at major junctions to assist commuters and ensure compliance with the temporary arrangements.
Officials have appealed to residents, office-goers, and transport operators to avoid unnecessary travel near counting centres and allow extra travel time if movement is unavoidable. Drivers are urged to strictly follow traffic personnel instructions and avoid parking near restricted zones, as violations may attract penalties or vehicle removal.
Traffic authorities noted that such measures are standard practice during large civic and electoral activities to ensure safety and uninterrupted administrative processes. Continuous monitoring will be carried out throughout the day, and diversion routes may be adjusted in real time based on traffic flow and crowd density.
