Trump Signals Willingness to Halt Iran Military Action Even if Hormuz Remains Blocked

US President Donald Trump has conveyed readiness to stop the ongoing military operation against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz stays largely closed, fearing a prolonged conflict.
April 1, 2026 | Washington US President Donald Trump has adopted a softer stance on the escalating Iran conflict, indicating that Washington may be prepared to halt its current military action even if the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz remains partially blocked. According to a report published by The Wall Street Journal, Trump told his aides that the United States does not want to extend the conflict into a prolonged campaign aimed at reopening the Strait through a large-scale military operation.

Officials in the US administration reportedly believe that any major mission to fully secure and reopen the Strait of Hormuz could extend the war by four to six weeks, or possibly longer. With that risk in mind, the current American focus is said to be limited to weakening Iran’s naval capabilities and missile stockpiles, rather than launching a full-scale offensive. Sources quoted in the report suggested that the US is now considering reducing direct military engagement while intensifying diplomatic and economic pressure to compel Iran to restore smooth international trade routes. Although the US has military options available to force open the Strait, such action is reportedly not being treated as an immediate priority.
Meanwhile, tensions have further escalated after Iran’s elite military force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), issued a warning that it may directly target American companies operating in West Asia and the Gulf region. The IRGC reportedly threatened retaliation for attacks on Tehran, stating that from April 1, its operations would expand beyond military bases to include corporate units. The announcement has raised serious concerns over the widening scope of the conflict.

The IRGC statement reportedly listed 18 major American corporations as potential targets, including Microsoft, Google, Apple, Intel, IBM, Boeing, Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard, Cisco Systems, Oracle, Meta Platforms, JP Morgan Chase, and General Electric. According to Iranian sources, the IRGC claimed that its planned actions would begin at 8 pm Tehran time on April 1. Potential targets could include offices, data centres, industrial units, and regional operational facilities, intensifying fears of cyber and physical attacks on business infrastructure. The latest developments underline growing uncertainty in the Gulf region, with global markets closely monitoring the situation due to the Strait of Hormuz’s importance in global oil and trade movement.
