Pune | 27 February, 2026: In a significant breakthrough, Pune Police have arrested two accused associated with the notorious Nilesh Gayawal gang who had been absconding for the past four months in connection with multiple serious offences registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
One of the arrested accused has been identified as Amol Dattatray Lakhe, 27, a native of Itkheda in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. He was wanted in cases registered at Warje Malwadi Police Station and Kothrud Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with MCOCA provisions. He was also wanted in another offence involving provisions of the Telecommunication Act.

According to police, Lakhe had been on the run since the registration of the offences in 2025. On February 25, Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narale of the Warje Malwadi Police Station received credible information through confidential sources and technical analysis that the accused was hiding in Barshi in Solapur district.
With due permission from senior officers, a special team was dispatched and successfully apprehended Lakhe in the early hours of February 26 from Barshi. During interrogation, he admitted to his involvement in the registered offences.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace other associates and examine the gang’s activities. The operation was conducted under the supervision and guidance of senior officials from the western regional division of Pune Police.
