Police said one of the women had entered India during the COVID period through an unapproved route and later adopted a new name to obtain multiple Indian identity documents. Officers said they are now examining how she managed to obtain the documents and whether local assistance or a wider network was involved.
The second woman, around 41 years old, had reportedly entered India in 2023 and was working as a daily-wage labourer. She did not possess valid authorization to stay in the country. Police detained her as well and said she will undergo the formal legal process before being sent back to her country under the applicable laws.
Officials explained that the operation is part of a broader campaign aimed at preventing unauthorized movement and strengthening background checks on individuals living in different parts of the state. Over the past few years, several similar cases have surfaced in Uttarakhand, prompting authorities to tighten verification across rented homes, workplaces and transit points.
