The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued unseasonal rainfall across Maharashtra on April 2, with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds expected in multiple districts.

Pune | April 2 2026: Unseasonal weather conditions are set to continue across Maharashtra, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across at least 32 districts on April 2.

According to official forecasts, several regions-ncluding Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon, Solapur, and parts of Marathwada-are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and wind speeds reaching 40–60 kmph.

The IMD has placed multiple districts under orange and yellow alerts, warning of potential thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms. The unstable weather pattern is being attributed to moisture-laden winds and atmospheric disturbances affecting western and central India.

In Pune and surrounding घाट areas, forecasts indicate thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rainfall, along with gusty winds that could impact normal life and traffic movement.

This spell of unseasonal rain follows a series of similar weather events in March that have already caused widespread agricultural damage across the state. Preliminary assessments suggest that crops spread over more than 64,000 hectares have been affected in northern Maharashtra alone, highlighting the severity of the ongoing weather fluctuations.

Meteorologists have advised citizens to remain cautious, especially during thunderstorms, due to the risk of lightning strikes and sudden wind surges. Farmers have been urged to take protective measures for standing crops and harvested produce, as further rainfall and hail could lead to additional losses.

Urban areas may also experience disruptions, including waterlogging, traffic delays, and temporary power outages in isolated locations. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have advised local administrations to remain prepared for emergency response if required.

Experts note that such unseasonal weather events are becoming increasingly frequent, often linked to changing climatic patterns and atmospheric instability. While the rains may offer temporary relief from rising temperatures, their impact on agriculture and infrastructure remains a concern.

The IMD has indicated that the current weather pattern may persist for the next few days, with intermittent rainfall and storm activity expected across various parts of the state.
