Uttarakhand teen Sachin Kumar, 16, scaled Mt Everest, aims to inspire youth – CM Dhami hails feat

Dehradun | November 13, 2025:  In a striking demonstration of youth achievement and adventure, sixteen-year-old Sachin Kumar from Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 18, 2025, becoming one of India’s youngest climbers to conquer the world’s highest peak.

Earlier this week, Sachin paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Dehradun, where he was felicitated for his extraordinary feat. The CM lauded the young climber’s courage, discipline and determination, calling his achievement “a new source of inspiration for the youth of the entire country.”

Sachin’s Everest ascent was part of the All-India NCC expedition team. The rigorous programme began with selection from a pool of over 240 cadets, followed by high-altitude training and acclimatisation at sites such as Abi Gamin and Siachen before the summit push.

The young mountaineer says his journey was not just a personal milestone but a testament to the power of dreams, perseverance and national pride. He expressed gratitude to his family, coaches and the state government for their support and pledged to continue pushing boundaries in mountaineering and adventure sport.

Officials in Uttarakhand highlighted that Sachin’s success serves a dual purpose: celebration of a remarkable individual achievement, and a motivation for the state’s youth to engage in adventure, leadership and self-reliance. The expedition’s success further emphasises the growing importance of structured training pathways for young Indian mountaineers.

As Sachin returns home to a hero’s welcome in Uttarkashi, his accomplishment is expected to trigger increased interest in mountaineering among younger generations and prompt the state to invest more in adventure infrastructure and talent development.
