A serious accident on the Dhatur–Dharur road in Beed district has raised public concern after a vehicle from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s convoy collided with a motorcycle, leaving a family of four critically injured. The incident took place near the Dhanakwadi junction when a fast-moving tanker in the convoy allegedly hit the two-wheeler carrying Vishnu Sude, his wife Kusum and their two young daughters.
According to eyewitnesses, the family was travelling toward Dharur when the tanker, identified by its registration number MH-02-GH-5732, approached at high speed and struck the motorcycle from behind. The impact threw all four riders onto the road, causing multiple injuries. Local residents rushed to help and alerted the police. The injured were taken first to the rural hospital in Dharur and later shifted to Ambajogai Government Hospital for specialised treatment.
Police officials confirmed that the tanker was part of Ajit Pawar’s official convoy but noted that responsibility for the collision will be determined only after reviewing technical and witness evidence. The motorcycle involved in the crash bore the number MH-44-V-1518. The damaged vehicles have been seized for investigation, and officers are gathering CCTV footage and statements from people who witnessed the crash.
The accident has sparked strong reactions among locals, who accuse the tanker driver of negligent and reckless driving. Residents said convoy vehicles often move at higher speeds on rural stretches, creating risky situations for smaller vehicles using the same route. With two children among the injured, demands for strict action against the driver and compensation for the family have intensified.
The police are now examining whether the driver followed safety protocols and whether proper spacing and speed control were maintained in the convoy. Investigators will also review brake marks, road conditions and nearby surveillance footage. Depending on the findings, charges may include rash driving and causing grievous injuries under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Indian Penal Code.
Local activists and political observers have criticised the broader issue of convoy safety, arguing that heavy vehicles like tankers should not be included in high-speed official movement without proper coordination. They say such incidents highlight the need to re-evaluate convoy management practices, especially when routes pass through narrow or busy rural stretches.
Meanwhile, the injured family remains under treatment. Doctors have described their condition as serious but stable. Relatives have appealed for help, and the community has rallied around them as they await further updates from hospital staff.
The incident has also drawn attention to the responsibility of public offices in ensuring safe movement during official travel. While the Deputy Chief Minister was not directly involved in the crash, the association of the vehicle with his convoy has created public pressure for accountability and timely assistance. Political leaders from the region are expected to visit the family, and the administration may soon release an official statement.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on establishing the exact sequence of events and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. For the residents of Dhatur and nearby areas, the crash has become a reminder of the risks posed by speeding convoys on shared roads and the need for stricter enforcement of safety measures.
