The Irrigation Department has warned of water supply disruption to Pimpri-Chinchwad if pending dues of ₹136 crore are not cleared within two days, intensifying the civic dispute.

Pimpri-Chinchwad | 26 March, 2026: A major conflict has surfaced between the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and the state’s Irrigation Department over unpaid water charges, with authorities issuing a final notice demanding clearance of outstanding dues within 48 hours.

The dispute revolves around water supplied from the Pavana Dam to the Pimpri-Chinchwad city. The civic body draws approximately 550 million litres per day (MLD) of raw water from the Ravet bund on the Pavana River, which is then treated at the Nigdi water purification facility before distribution.

According to officials, the total outstanding amount stands at ₹143 crore, which includes water charges and penalties for releasing around 275 MLD of untreated water into the river. Following an initial notice issued on March 17, the municipal corporation paid ₹7 crore on March 19. However, a balance of ₹136 crore still remains unpaid.

Executive Engineer Kiran Deshmukh confirmed that strict instructions have been issued to recover the dues. The final notice clearly states that failure to clear the amount within the stipulated time will lead to suspension of water supply without further warning.

In response, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi held an urgent meeting with Irrigation Department officials, including senior engineers, to review the situation. The civic administration has assured that efforts are underway to make maximum payment after consultations with elected representatives. The situation has raised concerns over potential water supply disruptions in the rapidly growing city, as both sides face pressure to resolve the issue swiftly.
