Why Are Mumbai–Pune Trains Disrupted by a 19-Hour Mega Block at Karjat?

A 19-hour mega block at Karjat station has halted several Mumbai–Pune trains, including Deccan Queen and Intercity Express. Passengers are advised to plan travel as work on yard redevelopment continues.
Mumbai | October 10, 2025: Travelers on the busy Mumbai–Pune corridor faced major disruptions after Central Railway imposed a 19-hour mega block at Karjat station from Saturday 12:20 PM to Sunday 7:20 AM.
The temporary closure is due to non-interlocking work and yard redevelopment, essential for improving operational safety and efficiency. As a result, multiple express trains—including Deccan Queen, Pragat Express, Intercity Express, and Indrayani Express—have been cancelled. Long-distance trains like the Koyna Express and Bengaluru Express will run only up to Pune.

Railway officials have urged commuters to check schedules and plan ahead. Staff at stations are assisting passengers with inquiries and alternative travel options.
This mega block highlights the ongoing efforts of Central Railway to modernize infrastructure, but it also raises questions for daily commuters about the timing and communication of such large-scale disruptions. Authorities assure that operations will return to normal once the work is completed.
