Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have invoked MCOCA against four criminal syndicates, including absconding former corporator Kisan ‘Maharaj’ Tapkir’s gang, signalling an intensified crackdown on organised crime before PCMC elections.

Pimpri-Chinchwad | December 13, 2025: In a major pre-election law enforcement move, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against four active criminal gangs operating across the city and adjoining areas. The action comes amid heightened security concerns ahead of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections.

Among the gangs booked under MCOCA is the syndicate allegedly led by absconding former corporator Kisan ‘Maharaj’ Tapkir, who is wanted in connection with the murder of businessman Nitin Gilbile in Charholi. Investigators have stated that the killing stemmed from an economic dispute, with Tapkir identified as the main conspirator. Six gang members have been arrested so far, while Tapkir remains at large. MCOCA has been applied to seven accused in this case, including Amit Jivan Pathare, Vikrant Suresh Thakur, Sumit Fulchand Patel, Akash Somanath Pathare and Somnath Prakash Patole.

In a separate case, Dighi Police secured approval to invoke MCOCA against the gang led by Vikrant alias Sarda Devkule. His associates Suraj Chavan, Sahil alias Vishwas Lot and Shubham Dingiya have also been booked. Police records link the gang to at least seven serious criminal cases.

Another major action has been taken against the Chikhali-based gang led by Aniruddha alias Vicky Jadhav. The syndicate includes 10 adult members and five minors and has been linked to 15 grave offences, including violent attacks and illegal possession of weapons. Key accused include Sohan Chandelia, Pradyuman Jawalge, Yash alias Gondya Khandagale and Abhishek alias Bakasur Pawar.

MCOCA has also been invoked against Rahul Appasaheb Lohar and his associates from Uruli Kanchan for their alleged involvement in attempted murders and armed robberies.

Police officials said these gangs collectively operated across more than 18 police station jurisdictions and were involved in crimes ranging from murder and kidnapping to drug trafficking and rioting. In 2025 alone, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have booked 179 criminals from 35 gangs under MCOCA, reflecting a sharp escalation in efforts to dismantle organised crime networks ahead of the civic polls.
