Youth brutally murdered with machete in broad daylight on Sinhgad Road, Pune

A 22-year-old youth was hacked to death with a machete and stones in the parking lot of a society near Sinhgad Road at about 2:30 pm. The Sinhgad Road Police Station have begun a homicide investigation.

PUNE, Maharashtra | Nov 17, 2025: A young man was murdered in broad daylight near Sinhgad Road on Monday, leaving residents stunned and raising serious concerns about public safety. The incident took place at around 2.30 pm in the parking lot of a housing society located near the route to Sinhgad College. Investigators confirmed that the victim was 22-year-old Taufir Rafik Shaikh, a resident of the Makkah Masjid area in Kondhwa. He was attacked with a machete and later struck with stones until he succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The murder happened in the parking area of Krishna Kunj society in Minakshipuram. Eyewitnesses reported that three to four men arrived, cornered the victim and assaulted him without hesitation. The attackers reportedly used a large sharp weapon and continued the assault even after he collapsed. Shocked residents watched in fear as the assailants escaped before anyone could intervene. Police said the attack appeared to be targeted, but the motive remains unclear at this stage.

A case has been registered at Sinhgad Road Police Station. Officers rushed to the scene, recorded statements from witnesses and secured the area before transferring the body for post-mortem. A murder case has been filed, and a team is now examining CCTV cameras in and around the society to trace the movement of the suspects. Detectives are also checking digital and phone records, and several persons are being questioned to identify the exact cause of the confrontation.

Residents living in the area say they are disturbed not just by the violence but by the fact that it happened in a busy neighbourhood during the afternoon. People were moving about as usual when the attack took place. Parents, working professionals and local shopkeepers have since demanded stronger patrols, functional surveillance systems and swift action against organised groups or repeat offenders.

Police officials have assured the public that the investigation is progressing and that arrests will follow as soon as evidence is verified. Preliminary findings suggest that the victim may have had ongoing disputes, but the authorities are not ruling out any possibility, including personal enmity or a gang-related angle. The brutality of the attack and the use of a machete has intensified calls for severe punishment once the accused are identified.

This murder adds to recent concerns about rising violent crime in pockets of suburban Pune. Local leaders and residents have urged law enforcement to step up preventive measures before such incidents become more frequent.
