PMPML employees will receive long-pending Seventh Pay Commission dues after ₹140 crore was released by Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad civic bodies, bringing financial relief and boosting workforce morale.

March 17, 2026 | Pune In a major relief for public transport employees, ₹140 crore has been cleared for disbursement of the second installment under the Seventh Pay Commission for staff of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited. The development comes after the Pune Municipal Corporation handed over ₹84 crore to PMPML’s newly appointed chairman Mahesh Awhad, while ₹56 crore had already been contributed earlier by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

The funds, totalling ₹140 crore, are set to be distributed to employees, addressing a long-pending demand. Officials confirmed that the amount will be credited directly to employees’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the process. PMPML, which operates bus services across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, plays a crucial role in the daily commute of lakhs of passengers. Employees had been awaiting the second installment of the pay commission benefits for a considerable period, making this release a significant financial boost.

Chairman Mahesh Awhad stated that the funds rightfully belong to the employees and their timely disbursal would help improve morale. He also emphasised the vital role played by PMPML workers in maintaining the city’s transport network. The move is expected to strengthen employee confidence and ensure smoother operations of public transport services, which are considered the backbone of urban mobility in the Pune metropolitan region
