A grounded IndiGo aircraft blocked parking bays at Pune Airport, causing 50 flight cancellations on Sunday. Apron congestion, delayed crew, and cascading technical issues left thousands of passengers stranded and frustrated.

Pune|08 December 2025:Pune Airport witnessed one of its most severe disruptions of the year on Sunday as 50 IndiGo flights were cancelled due to a major apron-congestion crisis. The problem began when an IndiGo aircraft, which developed a technical issue earlier in the week, remained grounded in a parking bay for four straight days. With that bay blocked and limited alternatives available, a chain reaction of cancellations and delays followed across the airline’s schedule.

According to airport officials, the congestion grew worse when multiple IndiGo aircraft were unable to depart on time due to crew-availability issues. As a result, the number of parked planes exceeded the apron’s handling capacity. Pune Airport has only 10 parking bays, but on certain days last week, as many as 11 IndiGo planes were parked simultaneously. The excess load restricted movement, slowed ground operations, and left incoming flights waiting mid-air or parked on taxiways.

On Sunday alone, the airline cancelled 25 arrivals and 25 departures. Many passengers reported long queues, sudden flight cancellations, and delays of over two hours. Some travellers said they were stuck inside aircraft for extended periods because no parking bay was available for deplaning.

Airport authorities stated that efforts are underway to restore smooth operations. Ground-handling teams, terminal staff, and apron management units have been working extended hours to ease congestion. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought a detailed report from IndiGo regarding crew planning and operational readiness.

IndiGo has expressed regret over the disruptions and said it is working to stabilize schedules as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked debate about Pune Airport’s limited infrastructure and the growing pressure on airlines to manage crew fatigue norms and technical maintenance more efficiently.
