Bahar-e-Urdu Festival Marks 50 Years of Maharashtra Urdu Sahitya Academy’s Literary Legacy
Maharashtra Urdu Sahitya Academy celebrates golden jubilee with Bahar-e-Urdu, a three-day cultural festival showcasing Urdu literature, music, arts.
Pune, October 07, 2025: Mumbai is all set to host one of its most anticipated cultural festivals — Bahar-e-Urdu 2025, marking 50 glorious years of the Maharashtra Urdu Sahitya Academy. The golden jubilee celebration will take place from October 6 to 8, 2025, at the Dome SVP Stadium in Worli. The three-day event will bring together the finest minds, poets, artists, and scholars to celebrate Urdu’s enduring charm and contribution to India’s literary landscape.
The festival promises an eclectic mix of poetry sessions, cultural performances, qawwali, ghazals, theatrical plays, exhibitions, and seminars. The opening day will feature an inaugural ceremony followed by the soulful Qaumi Yakjehti Geet, symbolizing unity through art. This will be followed by an evening Mushaira where celebrated poets from across India will perform, blending classical Urdu poetry with modern sensibilities.
A key highlight of the event is an engaging discussion titled “Filmon Mein Urdu”, exploring the language’s deep connection with Indian cinema and its lyrical beauty that has shaped Bollywood’s golden era. The night will conclude with a Sufi and Qawwali performance, offering a spiritual journey through rhythm and verse.
The second day of Bahar-e-Urdu will focus on the younger generation of poets and writers. Interactive sessions, poetry contests, and dastangoi (Urdu storytelling) performances will highlight the creative energy among youth. A dedicated segment will also discuss the future of Urdu in digital spaces, education, and mainstream media. The Academy will honor over 150 individuals for their contributions to Urdu literature, culture, and education — a testament to the language’s growing reach and revival in Maharashtra.
On the final day, the festival will host a grand musical finale featuring renowned ghazal and qawwali singers. Theatre artists will perform plays inspired by classic Urdu writings, reviving the emotional and philosophical depth of the language. The evening will close with a tribute to legendary poets whose works have immortalized Urdu’s grace and power.
For the Maharashtra Urdu Sahitya Academy, this golden jubilee is not merely a milestone — it’s a celebration of resilience, creativity, and linguistic pride. Founded in 1975, the Academy has spent five decades nurturing Urdu literature across Maharashtra, supporting writers, translators, dramatists, and artists. From organizing mushairas in small towns to publishing new literary works, the Academy’s efforts have kept the Urdu language alive and evolving in a rapidly modernizing world.
Bahar-e-Urdu 2025, therefore, is more than a festival — it’s a bridge between past and future. It reminds us that Urdu, with its poetic rhythm and universal humanism, continues to inspire generations. As Mumbai prepares for this grand event, literary enthusiasts, students, and cultural connoisseurs look forward to celebrating not only the language but also the spirit of togetherness it embodies.
