A 46-year-old man from Nashik was arrested in Chakan, Pune, for drunk driving and causing extensive damage inside a police station, including destroying a laptop and printer.

Pune, October 17, 2025: In a disturbing incident in Chakan, Pune, a 46-year-old man from Nashik was arrested for driving under the influence and subsequently causing significant damage inside a police station. The accused, identified as Ganesh Jaywant Kavad, was initially detained by traffic police after being involved in a collision while driving at high speed. Upon being brought to the Chakan Traffic Division’s Enforcement Office for further processing, Kavad became aggressive and uncooperative. He reportedly abused and assaulted the officers present, obstructed the mandatory breathalyzer test, and vandalized police property. The damage included two mobile phones, a laptop, and a government-issued printer. The estimated value of the destroyed equipment is currently being assessed.

The Mahalunge MIDC Police have registered a case against Kavad under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to assaulting public servants, obstructing their duty, and damaging government property. The charges also encompass violations under the Motor Vehicles Act for drunk driving. The police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the full extent of the damage and to ensure that appropriate legal actions are taken.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in dealing with drunk driving and the associated risks to public safety and property. Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic laws and have urged citizens to report any instances of reckless driving promptly.
