During the Satyacha Morcha in Mumbai, MNS chief Raj Thackeray accused the Election Commission of negligence over duplicate voter entries. He demanded strict action and transparency in the upcoming elections.

Mumbai, 1 NOVEMBER 2025 – Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission during the party’s “Satyacha Morcha” held in Mumbai on Wednesday. The rally, organized to protest against irregularities in the electoral rolls, saw Thackeray accusing the authorities of deliberately allowing duplicate voters, creating the possibility of rigged elections.

Addressing a massive gathering of MNS supporters at the morcha, Raj Thackeray said that democracy cannot survive if voter lists are manipulated. He alleged that several names appear multiple times across different constituencies, allowing some people to vote more than once. “How can citizens trust the election process when the same person’s name appears in more than one constituency?” Thackeray questioned.

He demanded immediate verification of all voter lists and urged the Election Commission to take accountability for the situation. “If the Election Commission cannot maintain a clean and accurate list, what kind of democracy are we running?” he asked. His fiery speech received strong reactions from the crowd, with slogans demanding action against the alleged mismanagement.

The “Satyacha Morcha,” or March for Truth, saw huge participation from MNS workers across Maharashtra. Protesters carried banners calling for clean elections and transparency in voter records. The rally began at Shivaji Park and concluded near the Election Commission office in South Mumbai, where party leaders submitted a memorandum demanding correction of the voter lists before the upcoming municipal and assembly elections.

Thackeray also targeted ruling parties for allegedly influencing the voter registration process to gain political advantage. “Political interference in the electoral system is unacceptable. The Election Commission must act independently and prove that it is not working under pressure,” he said.

Security was tightened across the city during the morcha, with police deploying additional forces to manage the crowd. Despite the large turnout, the protest remained largely peaceful. Mumbai Police confirmed that no major untoward incidents were reported.

Political analysts believe Raj Thackeray’s campaign could influence voter sentiment in urban areas, especially among young voters concerned about election transparency. The MNS leader’s sharp criticism is seen as a strategic move ahead of the civic polls, where his party hopes to regain lost ground.

The issue of duplicate voters has been a long-standing concern in Maharashtra. Several opposition parties have previously raised similar complaints, accusing the Election Commission of failing to update electoral rolls accurately. The controversy has added pressure on the commission to ensure a fair and transparent voting process.

Raj Thackeray concluded his address with a warning that the MNS would continue its agitation if necessary. “This fight is not just for one election. It’s about protecting democracy,” he said, urging citizens to verify their voter details and participate actively in the upcoming polls.
