‘Kavita Ke Saaye Mein Shabd’ Launched, Bridging Marathi and Hindi Literary Traditions

Senior litterateur Dr. Sunil Deodhar’s Hindi translation of select Marathi poems, ‘Kavita Ke Saaye Mein Shabd’, was launched in Pune, celebrated as a vital literary bridge connecting Marathi verse with Hindi readers.

A celebration of literary translation unfolded in Pune as veteran writer, translator and former All India Radio official Dr. Sunil Deodhar launched his new book, “Kavita Ke Saaye Mein Shabd,” at the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad auditorium. The event drew prominent literary figures who praised the work for carrying the emotional depth, rhythm and cultural richness of Marathi poetry to Hindi-speaking audiences.

The book, which features Hindi translations of selected Marathi songs, ghazals and poems, was described by attendees as a significant link between the two literary traditions. Renowned Hindi writer Dr. Damodar Khadse presided over the programme, while actor and president of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, Yogesh Soman, along with the Mahamandal’s treasurer and ghazal writer Pradeep Nifadkar and senior author Dr. Bharati Sudame, attended as guests of honour. The event opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony.

The anthology includes heartfelt Hindi renderings of nearly twenty-five celebrated poets, among them Swatantryaveer Savarkar, B.S. Mardhekar, Kusumagraj, Vinda Karandikar, Vasant Bapat, Narayan Surve, Mangesh Padgaonkar, Suresh Bhat and contemporary poet Sujit Kadam, reflecting an effort to deepen literary dialogue between Marathi and Hindi.

A review essay by Dr. Smita Date was read out by Swarangi Sane, after which Dr. Deodhar shared his thoughts, describing translation not merely as a linguistic exercise but as a medium connecting two cultures and literary worlds. He said the book was created with the aim of bringing the emotional universe of Marathi poetry to Hindi readers.
