The Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train is expected to reduce travel time to roughly 2 hours and 7 minutes, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, as per recent project updates.

Mumbai| November15 ,2025:India’s first bullet train running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is poised to dramatically reduce travel time, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirming that the journey could drop to just 2 hours and 7 minutes once operational.

The 508-kilometre Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, developed with Japanese Shinkansen technology, is designed for speeds up to 320 km/h. Vaishnaw added that construction is progressing rapidly and emphasized the corridor’s economic importance.

A major milestone was recently achieved with a 4.88-km tunnel breakthrough between Ghansoli and Shilphata, a section of the 21 km underground stretch. This is part of the project’s first phase, which is expected to launch in 2027, starting with the Surat–Bilimora section.

The corridor will connect 12 stations, including Bandra Kurla Complex (Mumbai), Thane, Virar, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Sabarmati, and Ahmedabad. Minister Vaishnaw said there will initially be a train every 30 minutes during peak hours, eventually scaling to a train every 10 minutes.

This high-speed rail project is being financed with Japanese support, primarily via JICA, and is expected to reshape regional connectivity and economic activit
