Patekar, who was 75, died in Goa on Thursday after suffering a suspected heart attack. The Maharashtra government had announced that he would be accorded a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Marathi theatre and Marathi and Hindi cinema.

Thousands Gather at Donje

Large crowds gathered at Patekar’s farmhouse in Donje to pay their final respects. More than 1,000 people were reported to have gathered at the venue, with mourners chanting slogans in his memory.

His mortal remains were brought to the farmhouse after arriving in Pune from Goa. The body was draped in the Tricolour and accompanied by a ceremonial procession before the final rites.

Son Malhar Performs Final Rites

Patekar’s son Malhar Patekar performed the final rites and lit his father’s funeral pyre.

The cremation was conducted with full state honours, including a ceremonial salute. Several prominent personalities from politics, cinema and public life attended the funeral to pay their respects.

A Final Farewell at His Beloved Farmhouse

The choice of Donje was deeply connected to Patekar’s personal life. His farmhouse, popularly known as Nanachi Wadi, was a place where he spent considerable time away from the film industry.

Spread across a large rural property, the farmhouse reflected his love for farming and a simple lifestyle. He was known to spend time working on the farm, cooking for workers and celebrating festivals there.

Patekar had also expressed his wish to spend the later years of his life at his Pune farmhouse, surrounded by friends and away from the pressures of public life.

Political and Film Personalities Pay Tribute

Several prominent personalities attended the final rites, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, ministers, actors, filmmakers and social workers.

The gathering reflected the wide impact Patekar had across Marathi and Hindi cinema as well as his social work and connection with rural communities.

Maharashtra Bids Farewell to a Beloved Actor

Known for powerful performances across Marathi and Hindi cinema, Patekar built a career spanning several decades. Beyond acting, he was also associated with social initiatives supporting farmers and communities affected by drought and rural distress.

His final journey ended at the place where he had found peace for many years — his farmhouse in Donje, Pune.
