Pune, December 08, 2025 – A brutal murder in Chandanagar has caused widespread shock after a 19-year-old youth was killed inside Rajmata Jijau Oxygen Park. Police said the attack was carried out by a group of friends who allegedly called the victim to the location and assaulted him with sharp weapons. The youth suffered more than twenty stab wounds before collapsing. Another boy accompanying him was also assaulted but survived with injuries.

Police identified the deceased as Lakhan Balu Sakat. According to the complaint filed by his uncle, Lakhan had been receiving threats from the accused over a personal dispute. The group reportedly lured him to the park under the guise of sorting out the matter, but instead carried out a planned attack. The FIR was registered soon after, and police began tracing the accused based on witness information and CCTV from nearby areas.

Investigators have arrested several youths from the locality and detained a minor believed to be involved. Police say the primary suspects had earlier confronted Lakhan over rivalry and other past issues. Officers are examining whether the incident was spontaneous or premeditated. They are reviewing mobile call history, social media conversations and CCTV footage to piece together the sequence of events that led to the killing.

The murder has sparked fear among residents in and around Chandanagar. Oxygen Park is a public space often used by families, walkers and college students. Many locals expressed concern that such violence could take place in an open garden without anyone intervening. Some residents demanded more police patrolling in public parks, especially during evening hours.

The case has also raised a difficult discussion about rising incidents of youth violence and group rivalries in Pune. Several recent crimes involving teenagers have highlighted the need for early intervention, counselling and community-level monitoring. Social workers argue that unresolved disputes, peer pressure and access to weapons can escalate quickly when no preventive mechanism is in place.

Police say they are determined to uncover every detail behind the attack. The team is collecting statements from witnesses, checking forensic evidence and questioning the accused to verify who initiated the assault and who played supporting roles. Depending on findings, police may add more sections to the case, including charges related to conspiracy and attempted murder of the second victim.

For the family of the deceased, the incident has been devastating. Relatives say Lakhan had no idea he was walking into danger and believed his friends wanted to settle a disagreement. Instead, a routine visit turned into a fatal ambush.

The investigation continues as more information comes in, and authorities have appealed to anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Chandanagar Police. The city, meanwhile, is left with a grim reminder of how quickly disputes can turn violent and how vulnerable young lives can be without timely intervention and stronger safety measures.
