India delivered a commanding performance against New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final, sealing a massive victory to claim their third title and successfully defend the championship.

March 8, 2026 | Ahmedabad: India produced a dominant all-round display to defeat New Zealand by 96 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, securing their third title in the tournament’s history. The victory also made India the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup crown while winning the championship on home soil.

Batting first after New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner chose to bowl, India piled up a formidable total of 255 for five in 20 overs — the highest score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. Sanju Samson led the charge with a brilliant 89-run knock, while Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan contributed quick half-centuries to give India a flying start. Shivam Dube added a late burst with an explosive cameo, pushing the total beyond the reach of the opposition.
Chasing a daunting target of 256, New Zealand struggled to build momentum as India’s bowlers dominated proceedings. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a sensational spell, claiming four wickets for just 15 runs and earning the Player of the Match award for his decisive performance. Axar Patel also played a key role with three wickets as the Kiwi batting line-up collapsed under pressure.

Despite a fighting effort from Tim Seifert, New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, handing India a comprehensive victory. The triumph marked another milestone for the team led by Suryakumar Yadav, highlighting India’s growing dominance in the shortest format of international cricket. The emphatic win triggered celebrations across the country as fans hailed the team’s remarkable campaign and historic achievement on the global stage
