The newly opened integrated flyover on Ganeshkhind Road will be named after Ajit Pawar, with the project expected to ease traffic between Aundh, Baner, Pashan and Shivajinagar.

Pune | 09 March, 2026: The newly inaugurated integrated flyover on Ganeshkhind Road in Pune will be named after former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced while opening the flyover for public use on Sunday.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held online, the chief minister described the project as a significant example of modern engineering and advanced infrastructure planning in the state. He said the structure highlights Maharashtra’s growing capacity to deliver complex infrastructure projects using contemporary design and technology.

Fadnavis also noted that the project was completed despite facing criticism and opposition at various stages. He credited Ajit Pawar for playing an important role in coordinating with planners, technical experts and stakeholders to ensure the project moved forward.

The flyover is expected to significantly improve traffic movement on one of Pune’s busiest corridors, particularly between Baner Road, Pashan Road, Aundh and Shivajinagar. The project has been developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and features a double-decker structure designed to support both road and metro transport.

While the lower level functions as a flyover for road traffic, the upper level has been constructed to carry the Metro line connecting Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar. Authorities confirmed that construction of the upper deck has also been completed and a successful trial run of the Metro train on the route was recently conducted.

Officials said the project forms part of broader efforts to address traffic congestion in Pune, which continues to expand as a major technology and business hub.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar highlighted that congestion near Savitribai Phule Pune University and along Ganeshkhind Road had troubled commuters for several years. She added that several road projects in the district gained momentum through coordination with the Union government and infrastructure agencies.
