Baramati and Rahuri Assembly Bypolls Announced: Voting Scheduled for April 23

Pune |16 March, 2026: The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for the Baramati and Rahuri assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, with polling scheduled for April 23. The bypolls were necessitated after the deaths of the sitting legislators from both constituencies, creating vacancies that must be filled within a stipulated period to ensure representation in the state legislative assembly. Election officials have begun preparations for the polling process, including updating voter rolls, finalizing polling stations, and initiating administrative arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.

The Baramati assembly constituency, located in Baramati in Pune district, holds considerable political significance in Maharashtra’s political landscape. The seat became vacant following the death of senior leader Ajit Pawar, a prominent political figure who had long represented the constituency and played a major role in regional politics. Baramati has historically been associated with the Pawar political family and is widely considered their political stronghold. With the bypoll now scheduled, discussions have already begun regarding potential candidates who may carry forward the legacy and leadership in the constituency.
