Nashik | March 26, 2026: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the high-profile fake baba Ashok Kharat case has issued a summons to former Maharashtra State Women’s Commission chairperson Rupi Chakanakar, calling her for questioning in connection with the alleged financial and social exploitation linked to Shivnika Sansthan. According to officials, Chakanakar was associated with Kharat’s Shivnika institution as a trustee, and her role is now under detailed scrutiny. The SIT has indicated that it will question not only Chakanakar but also all current and former members of the trust, as investigators widen the probe into the organisation’s activities and financial transactions.

Sources said a team from the Nashik Women Police is en route to Pune to serve the summons and coordinate further action. The development is expected to intensify political and administrative pressure on Chakanakar, who had earlier stepped down from key posts following controversy surrounding her association with the institution. In the wake of the Kharat controversy, Chakanakar was forced to resign from her position as Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission. She also relinquished her post as the NCP’s State Women Wing President, after opposition parties and social organisations demanded accountability.

Meanwhile, Ashok Kharat remains in police custody after the Nashik Sessions Court extended his remand by three more days. SIT officer Kiran Kumar Suryawanshi informed the court that Kharat has not been cooperating with investigators. The court noted that Kharat has maintained silence during proceedings and has been responding only with brief “yes” or “no” answers to questions posed by the judge. The police custody of Kharat has now been extended till April 1, as investigators continue to examine evidence and conduct searches. Officials confirmed that searches at Kharat’s office continued for the fourth consecutive day, indicating the scale of the investigation. With Shivnika Sansthan’s internal dealings now firmly on the SIT’s radar, further revelations are expected in the coming days.
